Ylang Ylang Oil self-care benefits

Awareness of our organic Ylang ylang essential oil forms part of our 5 Elements of Nature. Set with the intentional energy of awareness and the element symbol of earth, which relates to the root chakra.

Known by the botanical name Cananga odorata, our Ylang-ylang essential oil is certified organic and sourced in Australia. A yellow star-shaped flower, Ylang-ylang, grows in tropical areas like India, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Australia. Ylang-ylang is a heady, aromatic scent that is fruity, flowery, and rich. Several grades of essential oil come from the flower via steam distillation. Ylang-ylang complete is an intense top note used in perfumes such as Chanel Number Five. The less potent grade essential oils are used as a medium to base notes in the aroma and make products favoured by men and women alike.

Benefits of ylang-ylang oil

Decreases Blood Pressure + Heart Rate

Inhalation of Ylang-ylang has a soothing effect, significantly reducing systolic and diastolic blood pressure rates and heart rate in healthy men. Known to improve circulation, the calming effect on the nervous system helps support the cardiovascular system.

Calms Stress

Both inhalations and topical application (diluted) is exceptionally calming. A study uncovered that massaging a 20% solution of Ylang-ylang oil in sweet almond oil over the abdomen for 5 minutes significantly decreased blood pressure and increased skin temperature. An indication of muscle relaxation and, therefore, a decrease in sympathetic nervous system function.

Aphrodisiac?

While well known as an aphrodisiac, there is little modern research to substantiate this claim. However, Ylang-ylang, with its heady scent and calming effect, increases libido, reduces sexual anxiety and energises.

Uplifts

Known for its positive effect when inhaled, Ylang-ylang acts on the olfactory system in the brain. It can promote feelings of joy and ease while releasing negative emotions, promoting a calm and peaceful atmosphere in the home.

Use ‘Awareness’ our organic Ylang-ylang essential oil to stay grounded, calm and uplifted while living your life with intention.
